Martha Lane Helton

Mrs. Martha Lane Helton, age 92, of Rome, GA passed away Thursday, May 2, 2013.

She was born in Rome, GA on August 23, 1920 a daughter of the late John Chambers Lane and Ava Maude Camp Lane. Mrs. Helton had been a resident of Floyd County the greater part of her life where she was a member of the Oak Hill Church of Christ. She was retired from the Dempsey Agency of Rome where she had been employed for 43 years. Mrs. Helton was certified by the Insurance Institute of American on February 25, 1993 and was a member of the National Association of Insurance Women. She had served as President of the Insurance Women of Rome and Floyd County in the years of 1992-1993, 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 and had been selected as Insurance Woman of the Year in Rome & Floyd County in both 1993 and 1998.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles David Helton on April 11, 1987 to whom she was married on February 13, 1950. Mrs. Helton was also preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her children: Faye Cummings, Rome, Charlene Turner and her husband Ronnie, Silver Creek, David Helton and his wife JoAnn, Aragon and Brenda Chupp and her husband, Larry, Aragon; two sisters: Jean Gray and Marjorie Trammell both of Rome; nine grandchildren , nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Church of Christ with Walter Dundervill and Ministers Joey Haynes and Alvis Miller officiating. A grandson, Ryan Helton, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: Denny Cummings, Robert Cummings, Zack Cummings, Phillip Helton, Ryan Helton, Jason Turner, Matt Melching and Jake Duke.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Oak Hill Church of Christ, 1500 Martha Berry Blvd., Rome, GA.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made in memory of Mrs. Helton to the Oak Hill Church of Christ, 1500 Martha Berry Blvd. N. E. Rome, GA 30165 or Georgia AGAPE Adoption Services, 3094 Mercer University Dr., Suite 200 Atlanta, GA 30341.
