Mary Ann Crandall Smith

Mary Ann Crandall Smith died peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 22, 2025 with her daughter and one of her beloved caregivers by her side. 

A native Georgian, Mrs. Smith was 96 years old at her time of her death. She grew up in Macon, Georgia and was an alumni of the University of Georgia, Mercer University and Georgia State University. Mrs. Smith was most recognized and respected for her joyful and selfless dedication to the teaching and mentoring of children. She was a teacher and assistant principal at Oak Grove Elementary School from 1964-1989 in Decatur, Georgia. Mrs. Smith was loved by her fellow educators, parents, students, and community of friends whose lives she impacted over the years. She was a long time member of Briarcliff Baptist Church in Atlanta and later Sam Jones Methodist Church in Cartersville. She was also a member of Who's Who in American Education, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, and a honorary lifetime member of the P.T.A. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Eugene Smith and son, James Eugene Smith, Jr. 

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Jenny Smith Saladna, son-in-law Robert C Saladna and four beloved grandsons, Alexander, Andrew, Austin and Payton Saladna and many nieces and nephews. She will be buried at Taylorsville Cemetery on February 23,2025 at 3:30 p.m.
