Mary Emily Payne Cox

Mrs. Mary Emily Payne Cox, age 91, of 528 Hunter Street Rockmart and formerly of Cedartown passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in the local nursing center following several years of declining health.


She was born in Polk County, GA on December 20, 1917 a daughter of the late William Henry Payne and Lela Bell Hendon Payne. Mrs. Cox spent her early years in Cedartown before moving to Atlanta and then to Tampa, FL. and returned to Cedartown in 1980. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the former owner and operator of a health food store in Tampa, FL.. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Morris C. Cox on March 22, 1960.


Survivors include a son, Mr. Morris Cox, Tampa, FL; one sister, Mrs. Jessie Payne Prewett, Cedartown; three grandchildren; one niece, Mrs. Annette Prewett Ledford, Cedartown and two great nephews: Mr. Evan Ledford and Mr. Leland Ledford both of Cedartown.


Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Alvis Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Arlington Memorial Park of Sandy Springs, GA.


Pallbearers will include: Evan Ledford, Leland Ledford and Taylor Ledford.


The family will receive friends Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
