Mrs. Mary Jane Tibbitts, age 73, of Aragon, GA passed away Friday, September 2, 2016 in a Rome nursing center following an extended illness.
She was born in Aragon, GA on February 26, 1943 a daughter of the late Raymond Jasper Prater and Etta Mae Thompson Prater. Mrs. Tibbitts had lived most of her life in the Aragon area where she was a member of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church and a former employee of the Integrated Mills of Aragon. She loved to go shopping at Wal Mart, play bingo and spend time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded by a husband, Bobby Streetman; by a son, Timothy Streetman; a daughter, Paula Deems; by two grandsons: Alex Posey and Justin Deems; by two sisters: Frances Henson and Effie Mae Henson; by a son in law, Rudy Posey and a daughter in law, Deonne Streetman.
Survivors include her husband, Virgil Tibbitts of Aragon to whom she was married on March 26, 1982; eight children: Serena Sloman (David), Aragon, Linda Tibbitts, Aragon, Olin Streetman (Carolyn), Aragon, Tommy Streetman, Aragon, Ann Floyd, White, Shelia Posey, Rockmart, Rev. Ronnie Tibbitts (Jan), Dallas and Randy Tibbitts (Mary), Dallas; 24 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; brother in law, Ottis Henson, Clarkdale and special friend, Carolyn Williams, Rome.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church with Revs. Archie Streetman, Charles Sutton, Tim Deems and Colt Deems officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Zach Kirby, Levi Laffiette, Kyle Causey, Jason Deems, Mckade Bowman and Isaac Streetman. Honorary pallbearers will include: Willow Sloman, Tylen Kirby, Emma Hindmon, Emily Hindmon and Chesley Powell.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
