Mattie E. Whelchel

Miss Mattie E. Whelchel, age 85, of Rome, GA passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 in a Rome medical center.

She was born in Taylorsville, GA on July 25, 1931 a daughter of the late Albert Whelchel and Myrtice Forsyth Whelchel. Mattie had lived the majority of her life in Rome. As a child she attended the Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church in Taylorsville with her family but in recent years attended the North Rome Church of God.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Otis Whelchel and four sisters: Elizabeth Popham, Sally Louise Gentry, Lorena Taylor and Velma Pilgrim.

She is survived by three nieces, Myrtice Robinson, Evelyn Crowder and Irene Crawford.

Graveside funeral and interment services will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Bethel Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Darrell Cornett officiating.
