Mildred L. Lanier

Mrs. Mildred L. Lanier, age 80, of Rockmart pssed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in a Rome medical center.

She was born in Taylorsville, GA on August 6, 1933 a daughter of Frank Eugene Maxwell and Carrie Lorena Benefield Maxwell. Mrs. Lanier had lived the greater part of her life in Rockmart where she was a member of the Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church. She was a 1952 graduate of Rockmart High School and a graduate of the McCall Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Lanier was employed as a Licensed Pratical Nurse for Floyd Medical Center, Gordon County Hospital and the Rockmart-Aragon Hospital. She had also been employed as a LPN for the pratice of Dr. T.E. Cummings and Dr. John F. Atha and her last employment was for the Rockmart Nursing and Rehab Center. Mrs. Lanier was a former member of the 7th District LPN Association. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Knight.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Felton (Pete) Lanier of Rockmart to whom she was married on January 12, 1956; three children: Donna Bailey, Summerville, Barry Lanier and wife Leila, Marietta and Shelly Buford, Rome; grandchildren: Carson, Kendall, Joey and Randy; great grandchildren: Mae and Mason; three sisters: Marjorie Bowman, Rockmart, Joy Garrett and husband Arthur, Cedartown and Deborah Pace and husband Junior, Rockmart; two brothers: Melvin Maxwell and wife Shelia, Mableton and Chesley Maxwell, Douglasville; best friends: Janice Rhodes, Janet Waters, Margie Lemmins and Sue Cain. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Hoyt Lewis offficiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. until the memorial hour at the funeral home.
