Minnie Lee Akins

Mrs. Minnie Lee Akins, age 85, of Rockmart, GA passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at her residence.

She was born in Taylorsville, GA on January 27, 1929 a daughter of the late Horace Godfrey and Ethel Morgan Godfrey. Mrs. Akins had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County and was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Casey's Food Store following fourteen years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Doyl (Tom) Akins on May 17, 2011 and by a son, Billy Akins on January 31, 2012.

Survivors include two daughters: Nancy Holliday and Brenda Akins; a son, Tommy Akins; a granddaughter, Jessica Watkins and a great granddaughter, Braylee Watkins all of Rockmart; a brother, Howard Powell, Aragon.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Bro. C. E. Estes officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will include: Mike Haney, Larry Haney, Gary Simmons, Edward Akins, Starling Powell and Randall Atkins, Howard Powell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
