Opal Jeannette Thompson

Mrs. Opal Jeannette Thompson, age 79, of Rockmart, GA, passed away at her daughter’s residence in Lithia Springs, GA, Monday morning, June 12, 2023.

Mrs. Thompson was born October 20, 1943, in Aragon, GA, a daughter of the late Thomas Howard Knowles and Bertie Mae Brown Knowles. She had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County and was a member of Euharlee Baptist Church. Mrs. Thompson worked for many years with Douglas County School System in the cafeteria, making sure the children had good, nourishing food. She enjoyed word search games and was an expert at Skip-Bo. Her favorite things to do was spending time with her family and attending her church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon C. Thompson, and six siblings.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by her children, Tracy (Norman) Edgar of Newnan, GA, Jill Hayes of Rome, GA, and Kristy (Joey) Grant of Lithia Springs; brother, Dan Knowles; sister, Barbara Moss. Eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson will be Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Fain and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Thompson’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will include Joey Grant, Tony Knowles, Norman Edgar, Alek Gaetto, Heiner Giraldo and James Thompson.
