Parris Roberts (P.R.) Demore

Knowing a man of the World War II Generation is an honor. “The Greatest Generation” was shaped by harsh forces; the Great Depression, poverty, wars, which forged strong people of character, strength, God fearing, heroes known as defenders, protectors, supporters, hardworking loyal people. This is an era when ships were made of wood and people made of steel.

Parris Roberts (P.R.) DeMore was born May 11, 1924 and lived independently until gaining his wings Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the age of 95.

He was born in Clarksville, GA, a son of the late Percy DeMore and the late Connis Roberts DeMore. Mr. DeMore had lived in Polk County since 1973 moving from Rome. Mr. DeMore was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving his country during World War II. Mr. DeMore was a long-time member of Aragon United Methodist church where he was involved in the funding and building of the new addition to the church and took care of the lawn at the church. He has been a Freemason for over 50 years and was a member of Rockmart Lodge #97 F.&A.M.. He has made many charitable contributions to help others in need. He was a volunteer Veteran Military Color Guard for several years and participated in many funerals honoring those who served. Mr. DeMore could play multiple instruments and participated in a music group in the 80s with his brother, Curtis. They played in public places around Rome for the entertainment of those who enjoy mountain music. He loved fishing, gardening and camping. Mr. DeMore began his career at the first power plant in Georgia, Plant Tugalo. After he moved to Northwest Georgia, he completed his career by retiring from Georgia Power after 40 of service. Upon returning to America during his time in the military he met and married Gladys DeMore, with whom he was married to for 67 years.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Smith DeMore; sister, Edna DeMore Thomas; and five brothers: James, Fred, Ray, Curtis and Leon DeMore.

Survivors include his two daughters: Judy DeMore Ozment, Rockmart and Terry DeMore Abston (Walter),Forsyth; five grandchildren: Katrina Ozment, Mandy Richardson (Bryan), Joshua Ozment (Jessica), Benjamin Ozment (Ashley), Angela Bailey (Matt); eight great grandchildren: Blake and Jennifer Zuker, Caroline Richardson, Kaitlyn and River Ozment, Piper and Nash Ozment, and Ryland Bailey; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 4:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Justin Arnold officiating. Entombment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with Rev. Gary Diggs officiating and Brown-Wright Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include: Joshua Ozment, Benjamin Ozment, Bryan Richardson, Mark DeMore, Blake Zuker and Ross Martin.

The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:00 pm until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
