Ralph Sims

Mr. Ralph Sims, age 76, of Sims Path, Rockmart, in the Holly Springs Community, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at his residence following a seven month illness.


He was born in Shelby County, AL on August 24, 1934 a son of the late Samuel Newton Sims and Lou C. Smitherman Sims. Mr. Sims had been a resident of Rockmart the greater part of his life. He was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church,a veteran of the U.S. Army,a member of Beulah Lodge # 698 F. & A.M. and the Low 12 Club. Mr. Sims was an avid golfer and played with the Paulding County Seniors. He was a retired employee of Glo Gas where he was employed for 53 years. Mr. Sims was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Sims on October 30, 1998 and by a sister, Mrs. Sarah Ratcliff on May 21, 1988.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Sims of Rockmart to whom he was married on August 16, 2003; daughter, Mrs. Debbie Fariss and husband Jeff, Baxley, GA; son, Mr. Randy Sims and wife Connie, Villa Rica; step son, Mr. Tony Mewborn and wife Beth, Rockmart; brother, Mr. W.F. (Bill) Sims and wife Martha, Temple; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and a special friend, Candy Meers.


Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with his son in law, Jeff Fariss and grandchildren delivering eulogies. Interment will follow in the Beulahland Baptist Church Cemetery with Beulah Lodge # 698 F. & A.M. in charge of Masonic graveside rites.


Pallbearers will include: Randall Sims, Jr., Justin Sims, Chase Sims, Scott Fariss, Ricky Cleland and Brian Ratcliff. Great grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.


The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
