Rayford Leatherwood

Mr. Rayford Leatherwood, age 84, of 3287 Vinson Mountain Road Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, November 15, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center following an extended illness.


He was born in Haralson County, GA on November 20, 1924 a son of John Leatherwood and Gladys Pettit Leatherwood. Mr. Leatherwood had been a resident of Rockmart since 1948. He attended Holly Springs Baptist Church and retired in 1990 from Engineered Fabrics Corporation, formerly Goodyear, with 44 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, JoAnna Houston and Rosa Leigh Shaw.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Juanita Nolen Leatherwood of Rockmart to whom he was married on March 23, 1946; one son, Mr. Benjie Leatherwood and his wife Melanie of Rockmart; one granddaughter, Nicole Leatherwood and one grandson, Perrren Leatherwood both of Rockmart; two sisters: Mrs. Willie Whitten, Bremen and Mrs. Evelyn Golden, Buchanan.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Thomas and Rev. Billy Hitchcock officiating. Interment will follow in Rockmart Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will include: David Locklear, Dwayne Canupp, Barry Hitchcock, Ricky Jefferson, Johnny Finley and Richard Wright.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the Holly Springs Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Leatherwood.
