Rebecca Ann Meeks

Mrs. Rebecca Ann Meeks, age 70, of Piedmont, AL, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. She was born on January 10, 1950 in Carrolton, GA to her late parents; Freeman and Sarah Garner Summerville. Mrs. Meeks was retired from Haralson County Tax Assessors office and also spent many years as a substitute teacher in Haralson County. She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Piedmont, AL. In Rebecca's free time, she greatly enjoyed traveling, going out to eat, and meeting and making new friends. She had a zeal for life and enjoyed laughter and seeing people smile. Her great faith and love for others led her to be a caretaker for many in the communities where she lived over the years. She was a true matriarch and loved her family very much. She gladly offered her servants heart to all she met. Mrs. Meeks was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John W. "Bug" Meeks; daughter, Melanie Lynn "Sissy" Meeks; and two sisters: Patty Fennell Howard and Sarah Childers Tompkins.

Mrs. Meeks is survived by her son, Thomas Matthew "Matt" Meeks and his wife, Hannah of Jacksonville, AL; sister, Linda Sue Dunn of Felton GA; grandchildren: Matthew Kane Meeks and his wife, Kylie, Kassidy Lynn Meeks and her husband, Dylan, Kara Morgan Meeks and Hayden Leigh Bearden; great-grandchildren: Gemma, Kaden, Charlie and Chance, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Rebecca Ann Meeks will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Mt. Zion East Baptist Church at 1:00 PM (Eastern Standard Time). Officiating will be Brother Tim Smith, Brother Jeff McElroy and Brother Kenneth Boles. Mrs. Meeks will lie in state at the church on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 12:00 PM until the service begins at 1:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Zion East Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers; Keith Rainey, Allen Dunn, Greg Rainey, Jeff Dunn, Heath Dunn and Morgan Dunn.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday, January 1, 2021 at Faith Baptist Church from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM (Central Standard Time).

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Faith Baptist Church, Dailey Street Baptist Church, Mt. Zion East Baptist Church, Rolling Hills Baptist Church, Piedmont Rescue Squad and Philadelphia Baptist Church and the communities of Piedmont, AL, Rockmart, GA, Felton GA, and Nacodoches, TX for their outpouring of love, support and prayer.
