Rev. Andrew N. (Andy) Fennell, age 79, of Rockmart (the Yorkville community) passed away at his residence on Sunday, July 7, 2019 two days before his 80th. birthday.
He was born on July 9, 1939 in Lumberton, Mississippi a son of the late Samuel Clifton Fennell and the late Gracie Elizabeth Holley Fennell. Rev. Fennell had been a resident of Georgia since 1944. He began a thirty two year career in the automobile industry at the Fisher Body Company then with General Motors working in the Lakewood assembly plant, Doraville assembly plant and finally in the Grand Prairie, Texas assembly plant. Rev. Fennell was also instrumental in helping to organize the Yorkville Volunteer Fire Department, now known as Station 7 of the Paulding County Fire & Rescue, and served as Chief for a period of time.
In 1968 while a member of the Springdale Baptist Church he was called to preach. Rev. Fennell served as Pastor of the Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church, Faith Baptist Church, McPherson Baptist Church and Lake View Baptist Church. He was also a 50 year member of the Bartlett Lodge # 139 F. & A.M., Hiram, GA as well as a member of the West Georgia Memorial Masonic Club.
He was preceded in death by brothers: Rev. S.C. Fennell, Eugene Fennell and James Fennell and sisters: Mildred Weaver, Louise Forsyth and Vylee Chandler.
Survivors include his wife of over 58 years, Katie Fennell, Rockmart; three daughters: Robbie (Don) Adkins, Rockmart, Sylvia Crowe, Hiram and Lynne Smith, Rockmart; grandchildren: Chris Chambers, Rockmart, Vanessa Crowe, Dallas, Michelle (Justin) Prather, Temple, and Wayne Sharp, AL; great grandchildren: Kyleigh, Rose, Emmett, Madison and Marleigh; two brothers: Earnest (Jean) Fennell, Dallas and Edward (Nina) Fennell, Rockmart; two sisters: Ruby Alexander, Taylorsville and Doris Freeman, Temple; adopted children: Dr. Edward Pham, Alan Rakestraw and Connie Ellis as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at 12 noon in the Springdale Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby McDowell and Rev. Jesse Davis officiating and eulogies given by grandchildren. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Honors given by the Paulding County Fire & Rescue Honor Guard and Masonic Graveside Rites.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers. Honoray pallbearers will include: Leon Sosebee, Wyndell Furr, David McGarity, R.V. Coggins, Branson Locklear, Dennis Brown, Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge and staff as well as members of the Paulding County Fire & Rescue.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 9 pm at the funeral home.
