Rev. James B. Wheeler, Sr.

Rev. James B. Wheeler, Sr., age 62, of 406 Cashtown Loop Aragon, GA passed away Sunday, April 4, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness.

He was born in Rockmart, GA on December 29, 1947 a son of the late Martin Wheeler and Mary Morgan Wheeler. Rev. Wheeler had lived the greater part of his life in the Rockmart-Aragon area. He was a member of the Euharlee Baptist Church and retired as a machinist in 2001 from the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation following 37 years of employment.

Rev. Wheeler was ordained in 1974 and had served as Pastor of Valley View Baptist Church, Blue Pond Baptist Church, Clear Creek Baptist Church and Mountain View Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wayne Wheeler.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Joyce Edwards Wheeler of Aragon to whom he was married on February 3, 1965; one daughter, Mrs.Melissa Hembree, Aragon; three sons: Mr. James Wheeler, Mr. David Wheeler and Mr. Jonathan Wheeler all of Aragon; one brother, Mr. Doug Wheeler, Rockmart; one sister, Mrs. Mary Edwards, Cedartown and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Moore, Rev. Billy Chambers and Rev. Johnny Sisson officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with a grandson, Casey Waits officiating.


Pallbearers will include: Ronnie Sumlar, Ernest White, Michael Dill, Billy Deems, Claude Williams, David Johnson, Mitchell Rice and Gerald Robinson.

The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
