Rev. John Harvey Hooper, Jr.

Rev. John Harvey Hooper, Jr., age 67, of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023.

John was born in Rockmart on December 4, 1955, a son of the late John Harvey Hooper, Sr. and Essileen Pope Hooper. John had lived in Rockmart all of his life other than the years he spent abroad in Germany while serving in the United States Army. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force and the National Guard and served during the Vietnam era. John was a retired Pastor of the Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He had also served as a Chaplain of the Rockmart Fire Department and Police Department. He loved watching animals, birds and enjoyed traveling. John enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his nephew, Michael Conrad Riddle.

John is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hooper of Rockmart, to whom he was married on February 6, 1976; three children, Rev. John Hooper, III and his wife, Sabrina of Rockmart, Tricia Everitte and her husband, Richard of Rockmart, and Aaron Hooper of Rockmart and his wife, Charlotte from England; two grandchildren, Xander and Elijah Everitte; sister, Angela Rives and her husband, Steve of Rome; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Michael and Diane Edwards.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at 2:00 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Edwards officiating and Aaron Hooper delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Jason Purser officiating and Brown- Wight Post #12 American Legion Honor Guard in charge of military graveside rites.

Pallbearers will include Jeff Hulsey, Joe Henderson, Brent Edwards, David Mixon, Trey Chambers, and Little Archie Bagley. Honorary pallbearers will include Rick Stone, Larry Tant, Rockmart Fire Department and Rockmart Police Department.

The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 12:00 noon until the funeral hour at New Prospect Baptist Church.
