Robert Lee Shanks

Mr. Robert Lee Shanks, age 67, of 1065 Little Texas Valley Road, Rome, GA and formerly of Rockmart passed away Friday, February 20, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center.


He was born in Helena, Arkansas on May 4, 1941 a son of Vera Robinson Shanks and the late John Robert Shanks. Mr. Shanks graduated from Rockmart High School in 1959. He moved from Rockmart to South Carolina in 1963 and had lived in Michigan and Florida. Mr. Shanks had been a resident of Rome for the past six years. He worked as a newspaper printer for many years and was last employed as a foreman with Metromount Construction Company. Mr. Shanks served in the U. S. Army Reserves from 1962 until 1969. He was of the Catholic faith.


Survivors include four children: Ms. Jamie Shanks, Cartersville, Mr. Christopher Shanks, Rome. Mrs. Stephanie Jarrell, Rockmart and Mr. Travis Shanks, Cedartown; mother, Mrs. Vera Shanks; the mother of his children, Mrs. Judy Shanks, Rockmart; two brothers: Mr. Teddy Shanks, Athens, GA and Mr. Danny Shanks of Texas; three sisters: Ms. Barbara Shanks, Tampa, FL, Mrs. Diane Longfellow, Strasburg, Ohio and Mrs. Carol Pound of Oregon; 15 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren also survive.


The funeral service for Mr. Shanks will be held Monday, February 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister James Driskell officiating. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery of Paulding County.


Pallbearers will include: Randy Shanks, Kyle Shanks, Craig Blair, Shane Bandy, Wayne Jarrell, Christopher Shanks, Travis Shanks and Billy Blair.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
