Rudy Posey, Jr.

Mr. Rudy Posey, Jr., age 60, of Rockmart passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 following a brief illness.

He was born in Gadsden, AL on October 18, 1954, a son of Beatrice Witcher Posey and the late Rudolph Huel Posey, Sr. Mr. Posey had lived the greater part of his adult life in Rockmart where he spent his career self employed as a painter. Through the years he coached many young people in the Little League Baseball program here in Rockmart where those that knew him will remember that smile that he always had on his face. Mr. Posey was a member of the New Etna Baptist Church where he had taught Sunday School through the years. He was also a preacher and had a love for his church and the brotherhood throughout his Christian family. One of Mr. Posey's greatest joys in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a veteran of the US Army.

In addition to his father, Mr. Posey was preceded in death by a son, Alex Posey.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Streetman Posey of Rockmart, to whom he was married on May 21, 1983; four children: Rudy Posey, III and his wife Marcia, Yadkinville, NC, Amy Powell, Rockmart, Shannon Prater and his wife Sacha, Euharlee and Chris Posey and his wife Donna, Rockmart; thirteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; mother, Beatrice Posey; three brothers: Joseph, Jimmy and Neil Posey; three sisters: Judy Pitts, Shirley Docimoe and Wanda Haney, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 26, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Thomas and Rev. Gary Ingram officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Frankie McCarly officiating.

Pallbearers will include: Josh Posey, Robby Posey, John Barclay, Wayne Barclay, Shane Barclay and Lewis Smith. Joseph Chives will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be made to the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home to assist with final expenses.
