Mrs. Ruth Able Harris, age 96, of Taylorsville, GA passed away at her residence on Friday, November 24, 2023.
She was born in the Beulah community of Paulding county on April 11, 1927. She had lived the greater part of her life in the Taylorsville area where she was a member of the Floyd Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Berry College and served as a teacher with the Taylorsville School retiring with thirty years of service. She enjoyed quilting, working in her yard and sitting in her porch swing watching the crops grow on the family farm. Mrs. Harris assisted her husband with the farm serving as the financial manager. She also enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves and the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Ivy Harris in 1997 ; by her only son, Donnie Harris in 1993 and by two sisters: Betty Jean Lenio and Gwendolyn Louise Cocklereece.
She is survived by six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister, Nell Ables Buchanan as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 3:30 pm in the Floyd Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Harris and Rev. Jay Sutton officiating. A granddaughter, Kristi Gammon will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Denver Harris speaking.
Pallbearers will include: Larry Harris, Michael Cocklereece, Allen Evans, Alfred Regan, Rick Davis and Tomaz Fonseca.
The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial gifts be made to the Floyd Creek Baptist Church, P.O. Box 241 Taylorsville, GA 30178
