Shirley A. Waites

Shirley A. Waites, age 80, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021. She was born on June 1, 1940 in Rockmart, GA, to her late parents; James D. (J.D.) Baines and the former Lena Mae Millhollan . Shirley was a lifelong resident of Polk County and was a faithful member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mrs. Waites loved spending time with her family, who she cherished dearly, baking, quilting and helping others in need. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and a friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Waites, daughters: Connie Waites and Tracey Massey, brothers: Jackie Baines, Ricky Baines and Wayne Baines, sisters: Patricia Coker and Gail Hunnicutt, and granddaughter, Heather Waites.

Mrs. Waites is survived by her loving children: Denise Davidson and her husband, Jimmy, Robbie Hill and her husband, C.J., Mickie Dearborn and her husband, Josh, Karla Waites, and John Massey and his wife, Megan, 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way, 2 sisters: Gloria Crumley and Brenda Bowman and a number of nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Mrs. Shirley A. Waites will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home. A private funeral graveside service will be held with Rev. Eddy Hughes and Rev. Brian Lewis officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Chuck Leathers, Kevin Carter, Seth Benefield, Scott Lewis, Dylan Payne and John Massey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Waites great-grandsons. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks are recommended.
