Shirley Gober King

Mrs. Shirley Gober King, age 84, of Rockmart, GA passed away Friday, May 3, 2019 following an extended illness.

She was born in Rockmart, GA on November 26, 1934, a daughter of the late Ira W. Gober and the late Clara Martin Gober. Mrs. King had lived the greater part of her life in Rockmart where she was a 1952 graduate of Rockmart High School. She was a member of the Rockmart Church of Christ. Mrs. King worked for a number of years with her husband in the King Veterinary Clinic. She was very active in the community serving as a volunteer with The American Cancer Society for many years in both the door to door campaigns and the Relay For Life Events. Mrs. King also enjoyed the monthly activities of the Golden Age Group of First Baptist Church. She also enjoyed traveling, having toured in several overseas countries with her late husband.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Ralph King; brother, Jon Gober and sister, Ginger Wright.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Glenn R. King and companion Tim Jones; daughter, Janet Rucker and her husband Russ; grandson, Colin Rucker and his wife Megan; great-grandson, Grayson Rucker; sister, Jan Julian and husband David; brothers: Lanny Gober and wife Judy and Tim Gober; sister-in-law, Doris Wright and her husband J.W. ; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 6, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Rockmart Church of Christ with Minister Josh Clevenger officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. King will lie instate at the Rockmart Church of Christ on Monday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.

Pallbearers will include: Darrell Wright, Renae Wright, Keith Wright, Chandler Julian, Greg Gober, Dr. Kelly Gober and Kevin Gober.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
