Thelma Ely

Mrs. Thelma Ely, age 73, of Aragon, GA passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 in a Rome medical center.

She was born in Taylorsville, GA on July 29, 1943 a daughter of James Stanley Haney and Beulah White Haney. Mrs. Ely was a homemaker and had been a resident of Polk County all of her life. She was a member of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. Mrs. Ely loved her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed attending church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Lamar Ely and by two brothers: James and Ernest Haney.

Survivors include a son, Stephen Ely, Rockmart; a daughter, Dora Williams and her husband Lee, Aragon; three grandchildren: Dalton Ely, Jasmine Gugat and her husband Steven and Shannon Williams; two sisters: Dorothy Hardin, Aragon and Becky Greer, Augusta; brother, Tommy Haney, Rockmart. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 12 noon in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Brent Edwards and Rev. Charles Garrett officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The Deacons of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and include: L.C. Cornwell, Charlie Cox, Billy Ward, Gene Cantrell and Glen Wimpey.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
