Thomas D. "Yank" Nelson

Mr. Thomas D. “Yank” Nelson, age 81, of Taylorsville, GA, passed away Monday evening, August 7, 2023.

Yank was born in East Stroudsburg, PA, on November 9, 1941, son of the late Albert Nelson and Clara Pretorius Nelson. He had lived in Taylorsville since the early 1970’s, moving here from Pennsylvania. Mr. Nelson was a high school graduate and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a master mechanic, working out of the Operating Engineers Local #927. During his working career, Yank spent several years in the Middle East. He was a member of the Episcopal Church and loved playing golf.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Tame.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Peggy Simpson Nelson, whom he married May 25, 1973; son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Anna Nelson of Arlington, VA; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Brandon Pruett of Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Christopher (Casey) Nelson, Cayla Nelson, and Jackson Pruett; great-grandson, Evan Nelson. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Memorial Graveside service for Yank will be held Saturday morning, August 12, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Aragon Cemetery with Rev. Gary Clark officiating.
