Mr. Travis Dale Shafer, age 50, of Aragon, GA passed away Monday, December 16, 2019.
He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on March 21, 1969, a son of Paul L Shafer and Janice Henderson Shafer. Travis grew up in Port Orange Fl. where he attended and graduated from Spruce Creek High School. He was active there on the wrestling and weightlifting teams. He became a certified EMT in 1989 and went on to receive an Associate of Art degree from Daytona Beach Community College in 1990. Travis then moved to Georgia, met and married the love of his life, Kristi, and began a career in retail, managing at both Winn Dixie and Walmart. Travis' desire was to work in law enforcement and he left his retail career to pursue criminal justice, earning a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in criminology at Kennesaw State College in 2000. He returned to Florida where he attended and successfully completed the criminal justice program at Hillsborough Community college in 2003. Travis became a well respected deputy sheriff with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa Florida from 2003--2013. He served the residents of the county proudly and received multiple certificates of commendation during his law enforcement career. After returning with Kristi to the North Georgia mountains to live, his health declined and he eventually was fortunate to participate in a national clinical trial that enabled him to receive experimental medications and effective treatment for his condition. Travis had been a resident of Aragon, Georgia for the past nine months, moving there from Acworth. Travis enjoyed keeping abreast of the current news, political environment and watching TV and movies. He loved life, his family, animals and friends and lastly, but not the least, he knew Jesus, the giver of eternal life. Proverbs 8:35.
Survivors include his parents, Paul and Janice Shafer; brother, Kiley Shafer and his wife, Brandi; nieces and nephews: Carsyn, Presley, Patrick and Pierce; ;and former wife, Kristi Shafer; he is loved and remembered by a large immediate family of aunts uncles and cousins as well as extended family.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Pastors Greg Sempsrott and Barry Sempsrott officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 11:00 am until the memorial hour at the funeral
home.
