Mr. Van W. Williams, age 80, of Taylorsville, GA passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at his residence.
He was born in Taylorsville, GA on January 26, 1936 a son of the late John Williams and Lula Highfield Williams. Mr. Williams had lived all of his life in the Taylorsville area where he was a member and Deacon of the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army ; a member of the John W. Akin Lodge # 537 F. & A.M.for over 50 years and had worked for the Goodyear Mill, later known as Engineered Fabrics for forty five years. Prior to ill health he enjoyed gardening and spending time outdoors.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers: Herbert, Robert, Alton and Joe Ben Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Williams to whom he was married on May 19, 1962; daughter, Carla Simpson; three grandchildren: Jacob Simpson, Drake Simpson and Kaylee Simpson all of Taylorsville; two sisters: Clemmie Jackson, Rockmart and Hazel Ingram (Bill), Cartersville; one brother: J. T. WIlliams (Betty), Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with Rev. Sammy Hall and Rev. Brent Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Nathan Edwards, Raythan Edwards, Joe Rutland, Glenn Williams, Bob Williams and Leon Cook. Honorary pallbearers will include: Joey Williams, Robert Williams, Jr., Phil Williams and the Deacons of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church to include: Gene Cantrell, Billy Ward, L.C. Cornwell, Glen Wimpey and Charlie Cox.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
