Mrs. Velma Irene Turkett, age 90, of 250 Paga Mine Road, Cartersville and formerly of Rockmart passed away Sunday August 31, 2008 at her residence following an extended illness.
She was born in Aragon, GA on June 18, 1918 a daughter of Rev. J. F. Wallace and Roxie Quick Wallace. Mrs. Turkett had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County where she was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church. She retired from the Goodyear Mill of Cedartown with 35 years of service. Mrs. Turkett loved spending time with her grandchildren, baking and cooking. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ralph J. Turkett on March 12, 1965 and by two sisters: Ms Ruby Wallace and Mrs. Jimmie Schliesett.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Linda Ingram, Rockmart; grandchildren: Adonna Jackson , Shane Ingram and Melinda Graves; great grandchildren: Brittany Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Shayna Ingram, Shane Ingram, Jr., Makayla Graves, Shelby Graves and Zoe Graves; niece, Leanne Minghini and great nephew, Zach Morrow.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Wright and Rev. Jeff Dabbs officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
