Vernon Bell

Mr. Vernon Stanley Bell, Sr., age 64,of Rockmart, GA passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 in a Rome medical center.


He was born in Bartow County, GA on June 12, 1948 a son of the late John Richard Bell, Sr. and Thelma Mae Tidwell Bell. He had been a resident of Rockmart since 1979 moving here from Bartow County. Mr. Bell was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Vietnam. He was of the Baptist faith and retired in 2010 from Shaw Industries with thirty five years of service.


Mr. Bell was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dewayne Bell in 1972 and by a sister, Gwendolyn Bell and four brothers: John Bell, Jr., Harrison Bell, Kenneth Bell and Harold Bell.


Survivors include his wife, Martha Faye Eckert Bell of Rockmart to whom he was married on June 25, 1977; seven children: Melanie Dawn Bell, Adairsville, Shane Bell, Adairsville, Melissa Bell Dennison, GA, Christy Michelle Wilson, Aragon, James Joseph (Joey) Bell, Rockmart, Veronica Mae Bell, Rockmart and Vernon Stanley Bell, Jr., Rockmart; two sisters: Teresa Thurman, Rome and Margie Johnson, Adairsville; one brother, Clifford Bell, Acworth; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Land officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites.


The Honor Guard of American Legion Post # 12 will serve as pallbearers.


The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
