Mr. Wendell Cochran, age 64, of Franklin Street Rockmart passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011 at his residence following several months of illness.
He was born December 25, 1946 in Polk County, GA a son of Claude Allen Cochran and Texana Dudley Cochran. Wendell had lived all of his life in Polk County where he was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired employee of Bruce Albea Construction. Mr. Cochran was preceded in death by his parents, by a brother, Harold Cochran and a son in law Mark Gay.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beverly Cochran to whom he was married on February 25, 1972; a daughter, Christie Gay; a son, Bryan Cochran; a sister, Evelyn Loyd and six grandchildren: Keyla, Krista, Kyler, Alexus, Mercedez and Harley all of Rockmart.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart with Rev. David Warriner officiating. Dr. Brad Ward and Mr. Harold McDurmon will deliver eulogies. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Eddy Hughes officiating and Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion delivering military graveside rites.
Active pallbearers will include: Bruce Albea, Freddie Carroll, Larry Gore, Lamar (Bubba) Gore, Jimmy Payne and Johnny Kendrick. Honorary pallbearers will include: Kyler Gay, Terry Waters, Frank Lipham, Greg Caldwell, Dr. Brad Ward, Gary Simmons, Todd Morgan, Harold McDurmon, Kenneth Davenport and Sam Albea.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
