Mrs. Wendy Owens King, age 49, of Rockmart, GA passed away at her residence on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 following a valiant battle with cancer.
She was born in Dallas, TX on March 15, 1966 a daughter of J.W. Owens, Sr. and Dorothy (Dot) Owens. She had lived the greater part of her life in Polk County where she was a member of the Morning View Baptist Church. She was a 1984 graduate of Rockmart High School and had worked for over nine years as Administrative Assistant in Supply Chain Management with Murata Electronics Corporation. Wendy enjoyed farm life, waking up to watch her eight ducks on the pond and having breakfast on the porch. She touched many lives with her courageous battle against the "Big Ugly" as she referred to cancer. Through her strength and determination she and Charlie would be able to share Christmas together for three years instead of only one that doctors thought she might have. Wendy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Tony Owens and Roy Baxter.
Survivors include her husband, Charles R. (Charlie) King, Jr. to whom she was married on August 19, 2011; brother and sister in law, Joy and Tammy Owens; sister, Melba Larkin; nieces and nephews: Drew Owens, Dave Owens, Joy Leigh Owens, Steven Ray Larkin and Angel Vines; great nephew, Jaylen Larkin and great niece ,Evy Reece Owens.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Dabbs and Rev. Jeff Hulsey officiating. Interment will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include: Dave Owens, Drew Owens, Steven Ray Larkin, Jaylen Larkin, Phil "Buster" Graham and Mike Shanks. Danny Bailey and Rodney Wolfe will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the Morning View Baptist Church in memory of Wendy.
