William Ernest Smith

April 24, 1929 — September 7, 2008

Mr. William Ernest (Bill) Smith, age 79, of 299 New Harmony Road, Cedartown passed away Sunday September 7, 2008 in a Rome Medical Center following a lengthy illness.


He was born in Cherokee County, AL on April 24, 1929 a son of the late William Porter Smith and Dovie Rogers Smith. Mr. Smith had lived all of his life in Cedartown and was a member of the Euharlee Baptist Church. He retired from the Goodyear Mill of Cedartown and for nine years was employed by Polk County as a convenience center operator. Mr. Smith was also an avid gardener.


Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Daisy Katherine Smith of Cedartown to whom he was married on December 9, 1950; two daughters: Mrs. Lynne Arrington and her husband Donnie of Cedartown, Mrs. Cathy Bowers and her husband Charles of Etters, PA; three grandchildren: Jeff Arrington, Cindy Arrington and Larissa Bowers; one great granddaughter, Emma Arrington; three sisters: Mrs. Mildred Cain, Cedartown, Mrs. JoAnn Lewis, Powder Springs and Mrs. Edna Bowen, Cedartown; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 9th at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Minister Kenneth Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery of Cedartown.


Pallbearers will include: Donnie Arrington, Charles Bowers, Jeff Arrington, Jodie Ingram, Dennis Morris and Mark Watters.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.


The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
