William P. (Bill) Harper

Mr. William P. (Bill) Harper, age 80, of 622 Old Cedartown Road Rockmart passed away Sunday, January 25, 2009 in a Rome Medical Center following an extended illness.


He was born in Polk County, GA on February 14, 1928 a son of the late William P. Harper, Sr. and Frances Louise Matthews Harper. Mr. Harper had lived all of his life in Rockmart, was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church and a member of Rockmart Lodge # 97 F. & A.M.. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served a tour of duty in the Philippines. Mr. Harper retired as a supervisor in maintenance in 1990 from the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation of Marietta where he had 37 years of service.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mrs. Juanita Jackson Harper on March 21, 2006 and by a sister, Mrs. Diane Holley on September 25, 2008.


Survivors include a son, Mr. Donnie Harper and his wife Nancy of Rockmart; two daughters: Mrs. Beverly Judd and her husband Dan of Rockmart and Mrs. Nancy Brookshire and her husband Michael of Cedartown; three brothers: Mr. Bob Harper, Rockmart, Mr. Doug Harper, Villa Rica and Mr. Glenn Harper, Cave Spring; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.


Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Weaver and Dr. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.


Pallbearers will include: Clint Waddell, Allen Wilson, Greg Wilson, Lee Forsyth, Jeremy Blackwood and Mark Harper.


The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
