William Virgil (Bill) Sloman

Mr. William Virgil (Bill) Sloman, age 87, of Atlanta, GA passed away Monday, June 20, 2016 in Atlanta.

He was born in Cedartown, GA on March 8, 1929 a son of Levi Sloman and Mable Morris Sloman. Mr. Sloman had lived the greater part of his life in Norcross, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict and continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserve for a period of twenty years. He retired as a supervisor in the Doraville Assembly Plant of General Motors following a career of over thirty years. Mr. Sloman was a hard worker who enjoyed gardening and helping others and especially loved his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha Ellen Waldrop Sloman on September 8, 2007 and by two brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by a son, Tim Sloman and his wife Angela of Atlanta; two grandchildren:Sara Sloman and Samantha Sloman; one brother, Winfred (Red) Sloman, College Park and one sister, Mary Ann Lindsey, Cedartown; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Maryellen Hittel officiating, scripture reading by Dixie Plant and a eulogy given by a granddaughter, Samantha Sloman. Interment will follow in the Rockmart Memorial Gardens with the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post # 12 of the American Legion in charge of Military Rites.

Pallbearers will include: Frank Plant, Matt Plant, Jerry McDurmon, Harold McDurmon, Robert McDurmon and Jimmy Waldrop.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer Association, 41 Perimeter Center, East Atlanta, GA 30346 in Mr. Sloman's memory.

The Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the funeral of Mr. William Virgil (Bill) Sloman.
